This is a sturdy stand, with the usual trade off of weight versus stability. It folds up flat, but JUST fits into a standard back pack. For the acoustic-electric crowd, the clearance of the bottom of the guitar is such that you'll need a right-angle plug if you want to leave it plugged in at gigs.

You can adjust the stand to be wider or narrower, but I haven't needed or tried that feature.

I'm pleased. It's my first stand, although I've played the guitar for 40 plus years. About time!

Don't let the Master Class classification fool you. If you're thinking of taking up any instrument and know virtually nothing about music, watch this video first! This video was a complete reawakening to me of what I'm trying to do learning music. If you're reading this you probably, as I do, consider Victor Wooten among the top five living bass players. I hoped simply to watch the self analysis of a master performer. This video is vastly more than that. Wooten starts out with defining music as a form of communication and then asks, "How did you first learn to communicate?" He looks at the remarkable success rate of humans learning to speak a first language and compares it to the frustration for most people of approaching music classes. Do we ask a baby to recite the alphabet before we teach them their first words? Wooten asks the participants what notes are in a G minor key? He proceeds to play a bass solo in G minor using only notes NOT in G minor. Then he plays one in the G minor scale. The first solo sounds better. Wooten's point is that music is not about notes. Notes may actually be the least important part of playing music. This is one of the most thought provoking music lessons I've ever taken, primarily because it asks me to STOP THINKING when I'm playing. I LOVE this video.

Bought this for a 12-year-old girl who has to carry her own equipment around. This sturdy little stand collapses down into it's own little carrying case that fits inside her larger microphone-stand case. Suddenly she needs only one hand to carry everything.

Once opened, this is a full-sized music stand that is sturdy, stable, and fully functional. I recommend it.

UPDATE 9/10/13: I read another review that made me want to update this. Professionals who need to put really heavy portfolios on the stand might want to look elsewhere. It's great for putting a few sheets of music or a small open booklet, though. Choose wisely :)

Bought this metronome because it counts measures, which is quite nice when playing standard 12-bar blues (4 measures of the I-Chord, 2 Measures of the IV-Chord, 2 measures of the I-Chord, 1 measure of the IV-Chord, 1 measure of the V-Chord, and 2 measures of the I-Chord). This metronome allows you to hear if you are keeping proper time and also see where you should be, which makes catching up if you get behind helpful.

I have a few complaints. First, you only get two beats, too little time, between starting the metronome and get your hands on you instrument. Also the on/off, start/stop, noise/silence button does too many things. It also lack an auto-off function to protect battery life. Still these are minor quibbles, especially given the price.

I recommend this product.

I have been buying the Bastien series for my grand daughter. It is much less expensive to purchase from Amazon and get new books instead of going to a book store where you will pay more. You also cannot beat delivery to your door. I had the books shipped directly to my grand daughter. She loves her Bastien books and the method is very good. She is playing very well and is enjoying her piano and the great books. They also have Christmas books and hymns and other books that are in the same level as the student moves forward. This has given her more practice and more songs to learn and the prices are very good. This method has been helpful for my grand daughter in performing for others and just being happy playing the piano. She is really enjoying the recitals and lessons and practicing. Be sure to look at the other books for each level. They are not expensive.

The SN-13 is another great Snark chromatic tuner with a Super Tight display. However, the black SN-8 adds a tap tempo metronome and the ability to set the tuner a few semi-tones below standard, all for a few dollars *less*. No matter to me since all I use is the tuner, anyway. Still, the SN-13 is white and, for all I know, may do a better job at tuning an older iPad. :-)

Suzuki Violin School Revised Edition Violin Part Book & CD Volume 3 Review

I've been playing for a little over a year now (it's never too late to start!), and I really like these books. The Suzuki method is easy and painless and the songs are pleasant to hear and play. I love the option of getting the CD with the book--listening to the songs helps a great deal. There's not as many pieces in volume 3 as there was in volume 2 (7 as opposed to 12) but they progress in complexity at a reasonable rate. I'm looking forward to learning from this book and the rest of the series.
