Essential Elements Violin BK1+CD Review

This was my first book when I went looking for beginning violin instruction. What sold me was that it also teaches sight reading in conjunction with playing notes on the violin. It starts with one string at a time in the first position, then combines strings. The book contains 193 examples, charts and diagrams all over the place, as well as a cd AND dvd. The cd contains audio for examples 1-71, but the dvd has all of them. The musical backgrounds of the examples are not boring or monotonous sounding as one might expect, but are fresh and contemporary, ranging in nearly all different styles of music.
While my violin teacher has me using the Suzuki method, that method assumes you already know how to read sheet music, which was not the case for me, staring out. And in between my weekly lessons, I refer to EE2000 books 1, 2, and 3 all the time for additional practice.
I highly recommend EE2000 as a start point. It will provide a strong foundation for more challenging efforts on the violin. But nothing can take the place of one on one lessons with a good teacher.

Mighty Bright HammerHead LED Music Book Light, Black Review

First, I also own the Mighty Bright Orchestra Stand light, which I really like!!! I bought the Mighty Bright HammerHead light for my wife to use on her music stand, as she typically prefers light/small items to carry around. I knew how well my Orchestra Light worked, so figured this smaller light would be "adequate". However, what I discovered is there is really very little difference in amount and/or brightness of the light, when compared to the larger and more expensive MB Orchestra light. The only real difference I see is that the Orchestra light has a little wider spread/coverage than the HammerHead. So, for half the cost of the MB Orchestra light you get 95% of the performance when compared to the larger and more expensive Orchestra light. The HammerHead is SO LIGHT I'm very tempted to get one for myself for my regular use and save the Orchestra light for those occasions when I really require the extra wide coverage! EXCELLENT light for reading music...and VERY LIGHT WEIGHT so it would be good as a book clip-on light, as well!!!! Buy this light if you need a great music stand light!!!!

A metal lyre to attatch to your flute usually the music is to heavy and it falls off anyway. The wrist lyre works great. You can swivel it around also from front to back to use boths sides of the pages for your music.

I bought this to use for running and it has been great! I hadn't used a metonome for running before and didn't know how a $5 dollar one would stand to the $40 dollare one but I thought I would try my luck. It is very easy to use, has great volume options and clips easily to clothes. I was very happy with where the battery went, as it is not somewhere sweat and moisture could easily get. I have dropped it a couple of times and it still works great. I would recommend it to any runner wanting to use a metronome.

I'm very pleased with this metronome. I bought this to help me during my piano practice. It is loud enough to hear over the sound of the piano, but it isn't obnoxiously loud. Woodstock: Three Days of Peace & Music (Two-Disc 40th Anniversary Director's Cut) Review

Woodstock, the 40th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition is an wonderful box but far from perfect. If you have the 1994 Director's Cut you already have the meat of this box set. The extra songs are great (really!) but only worth paying for if you're itching for any new footage. Of course, if you don't already have a version of the Woodstock concert on DVD, then by all means get this box. The extra DVD contains three songs from the Creedence Clearwater Revival set which is fantastic to finally see (along with extra songs from another dozen groups). And PLEASE buy if from Amazon as they include their own exclusive DVD with a few very rare songs (limited time). The Life magazine reprint is fun but I would have preferred they replaced most of the "stuff" with another DVD. My personal peeve is the absence of Melanie. Even it you get this box set, it will still be worth the money to buy the 2 DVD set of +Jimi Hendrix: Live at Woodstock+ and (if you still have a VHS player that works) its also worth seeking out the VHS tape from 1991 titled, +Woodstock: The Lost Performances+ which contains a hour of songs that are not in the new box set. The extra songs in the new box set are not integrated into the Movie, so you will have to change DVD's to see all the songs of a particular group. Perhaps when the 50th Anniversary rolls around we will finally get a box that puts all the performance footage together as it ought to be. If not, maybe we can have our Cryogenically frozen heads defrosted in time for the 100th Anniversary (don't count on it). Oh, as to the complaints of others about the songs being "corrected", just ignore them, the sound is great.
