Product Description
The Schatten BJ-02 Std is a high quality, high output pickup designed to work with any banjo. Tremendous sound is yours, whether you play a 5 string, a 4 string or even a 6 string banjo. It will work flawlessly on any kind of banjo. The BJ-02 PRO pickup is installed on the underside of the banjo head and is usually placed directly under and inline with the center foot of the bridge. The pickup is totally non-damping. It does not interfere in any way whatsoever with natural acoustic tone or output of the banjo. This particular placement of the sensor allows the pickup to "hear" just what the banjo is doing. The center foot of the bridge is driving the element directly for maximum output and clarity. This same placement of the element also gives the BJ-02 PRO its superior anti-feedback characteristics. It is very difficult for feedback to drive the pickup in reverse due to the overall stiffness of the bridge area.Installation of the pickup system takes about ten minutes and everything that you need to complete the installation is included with the system. On a typical banjo with a three footed bridge the pickup is to be installed on the underside of the head directly under the centre foot of the bridge. On tenor banjos or banjos having a two footed bridge, the suggested placement for the pickup is on the underside of the head directly under the bass side bridge foot. The BJ-02 STD comes completely wired to Schatten's MVC-PLUS jack assembly. This jack assembly simply clamps to your banjo in the same way a normal arm rest attaches: to the tensioning screws. No modification is necessary to either the banjo or the jack assembly. The MVC-PLUS jack includes an integrated volume control.Schatten BJ-02 PRO Banjo Pickup with MVC Jack, Volume Review
The pickup has good sound. If I needed another one I would order the one without the volume knob because I seem to always have it on full volume to get it loud enough when my guitars are set on 1/4 volume at most with the same amp settings. That's why I would not get the volume one next time. The knob can also be hard to deal with when getting the banjo in the case because of how it mounts it sticks up past the face of the banjo. I did some grinding on the mounting bar of the pickup in order to get it to mount lower on the banjo to solve this problem. It does still stick out to the side which makes the fit in the case a lot tighter but not impossible. Sound reproduction is pretty good on my Fishman Loudbox Artist amp.. and also on a Peavey Ecoustasonic amp.. it was horrible on the new Fender acoustasonic amps.. so the amp also plays a major role. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Schatten BJ-02 PRO Banjo Pickup with MVC Jack, Volume" are high quality item.
