Peterson BBS-1 BodyBeat Series Sync Metronome Review

I love this metronome. This design of this metronome is easy-to-use; it is compact, has a clear display, a few different sounds to choose from (pulsing option is my favorite), wide range of tempi (sometimes I need to go as low as 25 bpm, I think the lowest it can go is 10 bpm), it's easy to skip to different tempo presets, plus it has an internal battery you can charge when you plug the metronome into an outlet (via charging USB cable). Although it took while to learn the basic functions (about an hour), when I learned all the basics, I couldn't go back to anything else. I am a former Dr. Beat owner & fan; I definitely like this more!

I hope this review is helpful to anyone seeking a highly accurate metronome. I am a music major, I teach at a public school, and I perform frequently; needless to say, my metronome is one of my most important possessions.

I bought this metronome because I was frustrated with the cheaper digital metronomes--their beep is both annoying and difficult to hear over a wind instrument. I borrowed my roommates nice wooden wittner before ordering my own; it was both accurate at audible. So, overtaken with nostalgia and faith in old technology, I purchased a plastic model from Amazon. Came on time, nicely packaged, etc. However, when I started the pendulum for the first time, I was shocked by the definite lilt between beats. To be honest, I am not sure if a "non-musician" would be able to hear it. Nevertheless, all of my fellow music-student friends wrinkled their noses after just six beats of my shiny new metronome. It seems that if the metronome is not placed on a perfectly level surface, it will not function properly.

To give the device a fair trial, I ran it next to my old digital Korg metronome. The pair were out of sync in seconds flat.

I gave this two stars because, well, it's kind of cool. It's clearly constructed well and appears to be durable. Despite this, however, a faulty metronome is to a musician like a warped level to a carpenter: useless! Needless to say, I will be mailing mine back in the next couple of days.

Manhasset Symphony Stand, Box of 6 Review

Built to last, these stands are the staple music stand for any band room. They are made completely out of metal (aside from one sturdy plastic piece)and are easy to assemble. All you need is a screwdriver and an adjustable wrench or even pliers.

The one negative to the stands is that they don't store very well. If you use many of them they will take up a lot of floor space. A rolling stand cart does help out a lot, but those are expensive. I choose to overlook this negative because of their ease of use and durability. Also, if a part breaks (which happens very rarely), it is possible to order replacement parts instead of a whole new stand.

I have ordered numerous 6 packs for my band room. It makes putting them together easier and the stands are (usually) cheaper when ordered this way. Also, everything comes in one big box which makes it easier to store in your room until needed.
