Suzuki Cello School CD, Volume 1 & 2 - CD Review

I bought this to use along with my Suzuki music book for cello. I'm an adult learning to play for the first time and thought that by hearing it played properly, I could then accurately mimic.

I only give it a "3" because the piano plays so loudly over the cello that you can hear it sometimes and you miss subtle nuances that would be nice for a beginner to hear.

Also, it's JUST the music from the book it goes with. There's no instruction or "teacher" on it.

This CD is slow paced. Some songs which are familiar should go at a faster tempo. If you are a teacher and need to use it for 4th-6th grade you can't! because the tempo is just too slow. This is a CD whose pace was made for younger children. For example "Mexican Hat Dance" and the "Virginia Reel" should be faster but aren't because they are designed for a younger audience. Not too young though. Listen to the samples though and decide as a teacher if it would fit your children's age group.

The hand strap on the back of the folder, the strings on the inside and the restraining tape (to keep the folder from flopping open made for an ideal folchoral folder for use on a fairly crowded choral riser. The single handed support of the music leave you other hand free for turning pages. These were ideal for our performances and will be useful for future performances.

Quik Lok LPH-003 Laptop Stands Review

The tripod section seems decently made but the laptop tray has issues. It's not quite as pictured. The gripper arms are not wide enough for even a 15" laptop. Other reviewers mentioned that it held a 17" laptop -- this plus the fact that the photo looks different, leads me to believe that they have changed the design of the tray and arms.
Furthermore the mouse tray was defective -- when trying to slide it out, loose ball bearings fell out. I also see no method for moving the mouse tray to the right/left side, as the product description claims.

This is my second Quik-Lok purchase in the past month or so, and in both cases, the quality is significantly below their historical standard! Outsourcing the manufacturing to China is probably a big factor in this change. I am going to have to investigate other brands. Sad to see another once-reliable brand slipping like this.

In response to the review below: I've been using one Master Key pitchpipe for decades with excellent results. In spite of the revolution of electronic, then digital, tuners, the good ol' Master Key is amazingly reliable for such a cheap, pocket-sized instrument. The one catch is: Yes, it does depend on how you play it. It is a small reed instrument, like a harmonica, and reeds bend if you over-blow them. The correct "technique" for this "pitch instrument" (that's what they call it) is to first inhale a deep breath, then blow into the selected pitch hole very evenly and gently out of the smallest opening one can get one's mouth to make, and it seems to sound better with the silver side up. May all your melodies be on key.

I only wish this book were longer! The songs are beautifully translated. I am an advanced pianist and (from sight-reading) they are difficult enough to be enjoyable and not too simple. A less advanced pianist could easily learn them and enjoy them as well. Another great Disney classic!
