Being a woman, I like pretty things, and this is a PRETTY concert-sized case, with its shiny gold latches and nameplate, attractive and comfy padded leather handle, and crushed green velvet lining that glows with the look of luxury. That said--each uke size has its own unique shape and dimensions that vary from brand to brand. So you really can't expect a one-size-fits-all perfection. In my case (pardon the pun) the neck rest was too high, due to the shallowness of my uke's body. I thought about putting a folded piece of attractive fabric in the bottom of the case to bring the body up to where the neck would not be stressed by the high level of the neck rest, but decided instead to perform surgery on the neck-rest.Using a big flat-head screwdriver, I gently pried the neck rest up a bit, peeled back the velvet from the underside of it, and used a steak knife to saw off a half inch or so of the bottom of the hard styrofoam within. After that, I tucked the loose velvet back around the underside of the neck rest, crammed the whole thing back into place and voila! The bottom of my uke now lays along the bottom of the case, no longer making my neck vulnerable.
I have the cheaper $40 black-fuzz-lined hardshell tenor case I got online, and my tenor Kala absolutely sloshes around in it, so with the fix I did on the neck rest of this Guardian Vintage model case, it fits my concert uke much better than the cheaper black-fuzz-lined case fits the tenor, and it's WAY more attractive. Moreover, I am confident this case will keep my solid-top Makai ukulele from damage.
